Year 10 work for lesson today Tuesday 10 December 2019

Lesson 1:
As part of your year 10 Mock exam will be to perform the christmas song that you've been working on over the past half-term.  I will be recording performances on Thursday 12/12 for feedback and improvement with a final assessment during the double lesson Tuesday 17/12.

The task is set out below in bold.  This was set in October and discussed many times.  You can work with a partner but at this point I'm happy for a solo performance as well.

Lesson 2 option (If you already get bored of practical...) Now with the wake-up call of yesterday's paper, please go on

https://fosuk.server1.apps.focusonsound.com/lessons/eduqaswjec-gcse#eduqas--film-music and

do the lesson plus test on film music.

All of this work will contribute to your assessed Marks this term.

Year 9 GCSE Music: Sibelius task: Create a 16 bar (4 bars that repeat) composition using the three primary chords in C Major. I: CEG, IV: FAC and V: GBD.  Vary the rhythms as shown on the board. Add a melody using the pentatonic scale in C.

Practical: Learn a Christmas song on your instrument of choice.  Work with a partner as this is an ensemble performance (your part must NOT be doubled in any way).  Be ready to perform it to your teacher.

Christmas songs on the UKULELE:

Christmas songs on the GUITAR:

Christmas songs on the PIANO: (Do try and go on youtube for more piano pieces).

You will need to make sure you practise in every double lesson that you have.

This is a solo or Ensemble task, so you can work with someone else (maximum 2/4 people)

Make sure you play an UNDOUBLED part in the final performance, but you CAN practise with someone who plays the same part as you.

Theory:  Be prepared to write a Grade 1 theory paper at the end of this half term:  Go on your focus on sound link and prepare for the theory by doing lots and lots of practise.  You can also watch these videos to support your learning.

Year 10 cover work for week beginning 14 October 2019

Please complete all other listening tasks on music first as set by me on this blog last week.
Please make sure your Reggae composition IS FULLY COMPLETED. Ask yourself,
1.does it have a typical Reggae melody (peace, love, brotherhood)
2. does it have a typical Reggae rhythm (bongos intro, with the skank in the guitar- make sure to do lots of listening to support your own composition)
3. does it have a typical Reggae structure (intro, chorus, verse, chorus, outro)
4. does it have typical Reggae instruments (vocals, backing vocals, guitar, bass guitar, drum kit, bongos)
5. Does it have typical Reggae harmonies (simple chord sequences).
6. Does it have typical Reggae accompaniment (listen to specific pieces and make sure each instrument plays a particular role).
7. Did you use reverb on your vocals/melody lone that you either recorded in live or played in. Add it with effects.

8. Does your piece sound like a REGGAE SONG? Does it make sense?  Did you play in time (oh man... please don't submit anything that wasn't played in to the click track....)

After spending the double on Tuesday 15 October making sure all the questions above are answered YES, then make sure you listen to a partners work and give them feedback according to the requirements above.

Year 9 Cover work week beginning 14 October

Complete all listening and Sibelius tasks set, ready for assessment over half term.

New task: Start a new Sibelius piece. Piano (Treble and bass clef)

- Organise the following chords into a chord sequence of your choice. Create a 16 bar piece.
C (CEG), F (FAC), G(GBD) Am (ACE).
- Extension: Play the chords and listen if you can hear a melody that makes sense.  Try and create your own melody that fits over the chords.
HINT: If the chord is CEG (C chord), try and use C E and G a lot in your melody. Or if you are using F chord, use F A and C a lot etc.
You can use other notes but just use them as passing notes.

Straight to stretch: Create your piece in G major (thereby using chords G, C , D and e minor.

Here are some hints to find the chords.
Here are some useful Sibelius shortcuts
